Steve Bolnick
Steve Bolnick is recognised as one of southern Africa’s outstanding safari guides. He grew-up with a deep love for the African bush and has spent the past 32 years living and guiding in southern Africa. Steve has trained aspiring guides in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe and is a qualified South African guide assessor.
He has led research safaris for the WWF investigating the impact of Tsetse fly spraying on the fishery of the Okavango Delta and for Washington University darting elephants and collecting tissue biopsies to be used in the control of ivory movement.
While living in Zimbabwe Steve held a Chemical Capture license and was actively involved in the darting and treatment of wild animals wounded by poachers snares.
In between guiding he has acquired three university degrees in related subjects. Steve is one of the only guides to be licensed to operate professionally in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Although he (together with Pete Comley) designed and led the first commercial dugout safaris that crossed the entire Okavango Delta, his passion is foot-safaris in big game country and he is certified as a specialist guide.
More recently he assisted the Malawi Department of Wildlife by training their game scouts to work with translocated wild elephants. He was the contributing editor for the book “The Prime Origins Guide to Exploring Victoria Falls”.
Steve is deeply involved in conservation and believes that the future of Africa’s exceptional wildlife heritage depends upon the involvement of the rural people who live in close contact with it. He has therefore worked with rural communities to try and ensure that they benefit from the sustainable management of their natural resources.
He established the NGO Community Conservation Ecotourism and Development, and established and directed the Chizarira Community Conservation Programme and Chizarira Anti-Poaching Unit.
Steve has conducted several fund-raising walks to raise money for charity. These include a 100 km walk to raise money for education in the impoverished rural areas of Matabeleland, a 100 km poaching awareness fundraising walk through Chizarira and a walk through three countries and two national parks in order to raise money for conservation and poaching control.
Steve is one of 47 African guides featured on the Great Guides website.
His years of experience qualify Steve to design, arrange and lead safaris for the most discerning guests and his licensing allows him to personally guide these guests in several African countries.
Steve is currently designing a safari to walk through the Paradise that is The Gorongoza National Park in Mozambique.
